The Papaya Workshop is a concept designed to impart both theoretical and practical knowledge on the subject of abortion. The Papaya Workshop was launched in the USA by Medical Students for Choice and has since been offered in many cities in Germany. We have also offered papaya workshops in the past. Since the summer semester 2023, we have been offering papaya workshops once a semester again.

We are always delighted to have the support of Doctors for Choice for our workshop. The gynecologist Dr. Tennhardt (part of the board of Doctors for Choice) introduces us to the medical basics of abortion with an online lecture* and sheds light on legal and ethical aspects. The second part will be practical! We will practice vacuum aspiration together on papayas, supervised by local gynecologists. This will be followed by a personal insight. We try to generate a different personal input for each workshop. In the summer semester 23, for example, we had a woman on site to talk about her experiences and in the winter semester 23/24, gynecologists from the clinical and outpatient sector told us about the legal, emotional and social problems they have to deal with. Die Gynäkologin Dr. Tennhardt (Teil des Vorstands von Doctors for Choice) führt uns mit einem Online-Vortrag* in die medizinischen Grundlagen des Schwangerschaftsabbruchs ein un beleuchtet rechtliche und ethische Aspekte. Im zweiten Teil wird’s praktisch! An Papayas üben wir zusammen die Vakuumaspiration, betreut von Gynäkologinnen vor Ort. Anschließend daran gibt es einen persönlichen Einblick. Dabei versuchen wir zu jedem Workshop einen anderen persönlichen Input zu generieren. Im Sommersemester 23 hatten wir beispielsweise eine Frau vor Ort, die von ihren Erfahrungen berichtete und im Wintersemester 23/24 erzählten uns Gynökologinnen aus dem klinischen und ambulanten Bereich mit welchen rechtlichen, emotionalen und gesellschaftlichen Problemen sie zu  kämpfen haben.
